In its second season of 2024, as part of the Austria Focus series, the UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra delves into the musical tradition of Vienna, the Austrian capital. This sonic journey takes us to explore the works of two outstanding composers: Joseph Haydn, known as "the father of the symphony," whose overture to his opera L'isola disabitata (The Uninhabited Island) is included, and the heir to this musical legacy, Franz Schubert, with his Symphony No. 8, also known as the Unfinished Symphony because it only has two movements, leaving a sense of mystery. Its structure has generated various hypotheses about a possible "final" version, including recreations using artificial intelligence, as well as the creation of new scores by composers such as Luciano Berio, who created his own work: Rendering. This work in three movements offers an elaborate restoration of that symphony in D major, which follows the idea of modern restoration that seeks to "revive the old colors without trying to disguise the damage caused by time.”
